Yaletown

Canadian Spirit in Yaletown

Located on False Creek, Yaletown is Vancouver's old warehouse district, which has been transformed into a lively neighborhood of trendy shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. During the 1880's, this is where the rail workers settled.

The Roundhouse, now a community center, was once a shed for turning locomotives. One of the engines can still be seen.

The community center has been taken over by the Italians for the Winter Olympics as their host pavilion. In Casa Italia Coni, you can buy the same clothes that the Italian Team wore at the closing ceremony, see exhibits, and taste Italian wine and parmigiano-reggiano cheese.

We also ate lunch in Yaletown at a Thai restaurant called Simply Thai. The food was delicious and the service was quick and friendly.

The reason for our decision to visit Yaletown this morning was to go to LiveCity Yaletown, one of the Olympic outdoor celebration venues. At this venue we had a chance to watch some of the competition, including mens snowboard cross, on big television screens. LiveCity Yaletown also has a number of exhibits and pavilions for some of the official Olympic sponsors, including Samsung, Coca-Cola, Aceer, and Panasonic.
