In B.A., Make It Mine

For our four nights in Buenos Aires, we decided to stay at the Mine Boutique Hotel, which is located in the heart of the Palermo Soho district. Palermo Soho, one of the trendiest neighborhood in Buenos Aires, has an abundance of art galleries, clothes and design stores, cafes, bars and restaurants. The location is highly desirable. But if you are planning on staying here, you better book well in advance as this boehmian hotel has only 20 rooms and is consistently ranked as one of the best hotels in all of B.A. on TripAdvisor.com. It truly is a gem!

The hotel's rooms are modern and comfortable. Wood, rattan and whites are livened with dashes of colour and Oriental design touches. Our room had a balcony overlooking the street, wireless Internet access, and a flat screen TV with a DVD player (free movies are available from the front desk). The bathroom was ample size and was equipped with a jacuzzi bathtub. And in your closet you will find the Mine-branded complimentary slippers.

The ambiance of the hotel's public area on the ground floor is comfortable and inviting. Here you will find both indoor and outdoor spaces, complete with hip furniture and ottomans, a giant LCD TV, a library equipped with many books to entice you, soft lighting, and good new-age tango chill-out music playing throughout the common space. There is also a computer corner where you can surf the internet for free. Off the lobby is a small exterior courtyard with seating and out back you will find another walled-in courtyard with a small pool for just being lazy.

The Mine Boutique Hotel also has their own restaurant, the "Mine Bistro." A complimentary buffet breakfast is included with your evening's lodging. Breakfast was delicious and the range of options was plentiful: fruit, omelets made to order, pancakes with dulce de leche (yummy!), breads, juices, coffees, etc. The bistro is also open for lunch and lite fare in the evening.

So, if you aren't already sold on this hotel, let me add a few more superlatives. The staff here is absolutely fantastic! Each and every person we encountered from the front desk, to the restaurant, to housekeeping, was friendly, spoke English, and bent over backwards to make us feel at home and comfortable. They were eager to make sure that we were enjoying our stay in B.A. and assisted with making transportation arrangements, tango dinner show reservations, and recommending dining options.

And, by the way, you don't even need to stay here at the hotel to receive such great service. One time while I was waiting in the lobby area, a woman from a nearby hotel came in to the front desk to ask for recommendations, which the staff was eager to provide. On the day of our departure, as we were putting our luggage into our taxi, the hotel's manager learned that it was my dad's birthday; she insisted that we wait for her as she ran back into the hotel. She quickly returned with a small gift (CD of tango music) for my dad. Now that's what I call service!
